How to Measure
 Your Sofa for Delivery

When you buy a new sofa, you want to be sure it fits the way you want in the space you’re planning to put it. That’s the obvious part - but you should also consider measuring any doors or entryways you plan to move it through.

Even if you are assembling it from pieces, you’ll likely be moving one day. Unless you plan to completely disassemble it, you’ll need to make sure it can fit leaving your home. You should also think about moving it from room to room if you live in a bigger home with a more fluid layout.

To prepare, you need to take accurate measurements before ordering new furniture, especially if you’re buying your sofa online. You should then compare them to the sofa’s dimensions to find the perfect fit.

So break out your tape measure because you’ll need it to make sure your new sofa or sectional sofa is the right size for your living room, family room, or wherever else you plan to put it.

Understand Your Space
 Before You Shop

This buying guide will help you prepare for the arrival of your new sofa and that includes measuring accurately. When measuring your living space for a new sofa, you should include entryways, stairways, and hallways as well as the living room your sofa will be set up in after furniture delivery. This is particularly important for small spaces.

How to Measure for
 Your New Sofa

When measuring for a new sofa, you’ll want to use a measuring tape to get accurate dimensions for your front door. This applies specifically to the door frame, as well as any other entryways and stairwells, to make sure your sofa will be able to fit through when it arrives.

If you’re buying an Allform sofa, this is less of a concern as assembly will take place after it’s in your home. But, like we said, you may be moving one day, so it’s worth looking at. Also measure any doors or entryways where you would potentially move your sofa, even if you’re not thinking about doing that just yet.

Know Your Sofa Dimensions

Next, be sure to gather the sofa’s dimensions. You should be looking for the following: highest point, widest point, diagonal length, diagonal depth, and dimensions for any additional features, like a chaise lounge or ottoman.
Tip #1
Most furniture retailers should have this information available for individual products, or it will be available by request. For example, a three-seat sofa from Allform is 90 inches across with 38-inch wide seats. However, you might have to factor in a 61-inch chaise if you’re including one. Any configuration you choose will have these dimensions available so you can measure appropriately.
Tip #2
Keep in mind that if you’re buying a sectional sofa, you should plan to break down the measurements into components to make sure your configuration fits your space. Also, be sure to factor in any space you want to leave between the sofa and nearby walls or fixtures.
Tip #3
If you’re looking to make the most of a small living room, a neutral convertible sofa is a great option to make the room appear bigger and it adds functionality to the room, creating a bed for guests.

Compare Your Dimensions

Finally, compare your space measurements to your sofa dimensions to be sure the sofa’s height, width and other measurements will fit within the dimensions of your space and entryways.
Tip #1
Another tip that’s really helpful is to place any accent furniture where you expect it to be when your couch arrives. This way, you can get an accurate picture of your living space and the general setup of the room.
Tip #2
If you want to be really sure, you can outline your new furniture in masking tape on the floor to get the exact layout right prior to purchase. This is tedious, but can be really helpful if you’re worried about crowding a room.
